News -> Bangladesh is imposing restrictions

01/26/2007

Multiple sources in Bangladesh and Malaysia have advised that the local government within Bangladesh is imposing restrictions against certain telecom operators. This is resulting in extremely low call completions to the country due to the increased load on the remaining non-restricted network capacity. Our testing indicates that it is affecting all carriers, including AT&T. We are working with our carriers and tuning our routing to provide the best service possible while the situation continues.

We have not received any change in status of the restoration operations in progress to repair the submarine cables damaged by the earthquakes off the coast of Taiwan last December. The latest status is that the first stage of the repair work of the damaged systems is expected to be completed within the second half of this month. The remaining repair work is expected to be completed progressively by the middle of February 2007, if the weather and the environment permit.

ComFi? will continue to provide updates on the situation as they become available.
